Normally the NYC Illegal Eviction
Law (NYC Admin. Code Sec. 26-521) might apply
and you could go to the police and have them use
Police Guide Procedure #117-11. But in this case it appears
you are renting a separate non-dwelling space
for commercial purposes and thereby not
protected by the illegal eviction law. Even so, if you can prove you
were using the space and paying for it, then you could probably seek
injunctive relief (and possibly tort) against the owner.
You just have to be careful that he
doesn't claim this
was storage space provided along with your dwelling apartment;
that could gum up the works.
