Illegal Lockout

Posted by Br Bunker on May 16, 1996 at 15:00:19:

Recently I have filed a rent overcharge complaint
with the DHCR. When my landlord got wind of this
he put a padlock on an additional little space in the basement
that I rent for my recording equipment.

He did not give me a seperate lease for th is space.
instead he just raised my rent by the agreed amount
that he wanted to charge for the basement space.

So all I have are electric bills to show that
I occupy the space.

He is now claiming that he knows nothing about our agreement
a nd is not willing to give me access to my own
equipment which is in this space.
(costing me money)

I tried to speak to him today on the phone
(on the request of his lawyer) to try to settle the issue
out of court. but all he did was tell me how nasty
he can be and has been to other tenants.

Basically he is not willing to follow the law and give
me proper notice for termination of the rental
downstairs.

I'm Shocked!
