As I previously posted, in my opinion, pay the back rent asap. Then, once again, try to get your LL to agree to some rent abatement, and if and when he does not you can take him to court and seek a rent abatement. You have to go to HPD and get a stamped copy of the violation(s) for your building to bring into court. More aggrivation. Only you can decide if it's worth it. BTW HPD violations are now online-just type HPDonline in the Yahoo address bar. You can find out whats up in your building.
