I have just been informed today - Jan 26 that my rent will be increased 40% commencing Feb 1. Is that right? Can my landlord do that?
I have lived in the building for several years without a lease, but have always been billed and paid my rent on a monthly basis. Attached to my monthly rent bill today was a copy of a sublease for my unit. This "sublease" document states that my rent will now be an extra 40%. It also states that a copy of the "over-Lease" is attached. This "Over-Lease" was not attached. What is the "over-lease"?
Should I insist on seeing a copy of this over-lease?
I cannot afford the 40% increase. What can I do?
How can I best fight this decision?
Do I need to contact a lawyer?
