*Help* house on fire, no renter's insurance

Posted by chris is homeless on January 23, 2002 at 01:10:21:

hi, i was renting a room at this house, and it got on a fire last week. Till now, they do now know how it happened, and I sure did not start the fire but they do know it started from the roof. I have no renter's insurance and I intend to take my landlord to the small claim court. Is the owner reponsible for my lost belongings? I was told *Yes* by my pre-law friend because the owner was making an "Income" out of my presence at that house thus should pay for my lost which comes about $4000. This is so frustrating, the owner is trying to avoid everyone, including me and those people from agencies trying to board up the house to make money and such. The house has be determined *unsafe* and the owner hiding from everyone makes it very hard for me to get my remainng stuff back from that house.
