Can I break a lease if I lost my job and have to go to another state for work?

Posted by shawn on January 18, 2002 at 12:23:13:

I've been laid off and we just moved into this apartment 2 months ago. We could afford this apartment in Rennselaer, NY (Albany) when I had the job, but now I may have to take a job in another state to get the same amount I was making. Is there any way I can break a lease in this situation? Would it be considered a hardship? This is a three building complex with 6 apts in each. We have the lease for a year and it is a private owner(not an agency or Properties management).

Thanks

Shawn
