LL's and brokers cannot discriminate, but they do. You are under no obligation to reveal that your 2 children will be living with you. Just say nothing. When you rent an apartment, the law provides that in addition to the person (you)named on the lease, that your husband, children, parents, any and all family memebers are allowed to live in the apartment with you. There must be I think 80 square feet of living space for each person in the apartment, excluding kitchen and bathroom. Try try try to find an apartment that is rent stabilized as that affords you more protections than one that is not regulated.
