They were never kids

Posted by Judy on January 13, 2002 at 17:05:42:

I'm new in New York, finding that it's very hard to get an apartment if one has kids. I have two kids and in my East European culture it's quiet all right to live two adults-two kids in two rooms. Taken that the living space is divided differently. No such thing as a living room. Rather, it serves as a living room during the day and bedroom at night. Of course, if my pocket would allow, I would gladly rent even three bedrooms. But I can afford only one or two in the price up to $1100. And there is a problem. When I responde to an ad, I get mixed reactions, from hanging up to information that, yes there are two bedrooms but there are too small. I like one apartment with 1 bedroom but the real estate office advise me not to include kids on the application so the owner may accept my offer easier. What should I do? I'm really desperated to get this appartment. Thanks in advance.
