You got it done cheap and probably received a better quality repair job then if the super did it. Too bad you had to suffer with it for 6 months. Do you have any photographs of the ceiling and did you put anything in writing to the LL or the super and if so was it sent certified mail? A rent abatement is a possibility but you must have documentation of the condition and be able to prove that LL was made aware of the problem in your apartment, hence the certified letters, or faxes or emails.
