Sometimes washers and dryers can overload drainpipes and/or leak onto downstairs tenants. Still, I don't see a problem unless they are causing such problems and/or they are prohibited by lease. If so, you risk eviction unless you get rid of them. Yes, you may have a case ("waiver" or whatever) if the supt. knew about it.
