An example of Richard - why he's banned

Posted by TenantNet on January 01, 2002 at 15:36:48:

If you look at the thread three messages down (Noisy neighbors), the person responding as "Dave" is really Richard who was banned several months ago. Despite that, he continues to post as we don't have a mechanism in place to prohibit posting except by IP name or number -- and we're not about to block all AOL users (or Verizon users in Richard's case.

We have removed many of his postings as a matter of policy, but we're leaving this one as an example of why he was banned -- and why we've warned others. In this case, instead of trying to help the tenant or offering advice or options, he tells the tenant to move. That is usually unacceptable for the tenant -- they're asking for help, not to be told to move. While some situations do have little hope and may require the tenant vacating, this one in particular does not call for that. And, more importantly, that's not the purpose of this board. When we see that kind of "advice" -- or a pattern from a particular user, we warn them and if necessary, ban them. We've had many complaints about Richard as his type of operating creates a hostile climate -- and we do not countenance that. If Richard and others like him want to berate tenants, or troll, or put out nonsense from the Cato Institute -- they are free to do so on Usenet, not here.

Another point we wish to make, as some of you know, we've been experimenting with a new forum software and we may be changing over to that in the near future. Although it requires registration -- and we're concerned that it might inhibit open queries -- it also offers many advanced features. The new software is used on thousands of web sites throughout the net and the sites we've visited get very heavy use. If/when we change, it's not a reaction to Richard.
