I have been a resident in a Mitchell-Lama apartment for about five years, but it is my roommate who is the primary tenant on the lease. About two and a half years ago, (after much pleading), she finally wrote a letter to the management stating that I was also a full-time resident. I have submitted, along with hers, my income affadavit (the last two years) and my NYS tax return (the last year).
Now she wants to move out.
Do I have the right to take over the lease? And how should I go about it?
