All other things being equal, I would rather live in the building with the billboard than the one directly across from it. These mega ads are an eyesore and degrade a neighborhood just as much noise or litter. To make matters worse, they're intended to distract anyone driving past the building. Their negative impact goes well beyond the tenants who live in the buildings that bear these ads.


: You're right. Some are more benign -- and not all issues are worth a fight. But some are, so it's important to look at the situation first. Community boards can have some impact, but it needs well-versed residents to push the issue on its own as well. This is an issue we've seen throughout the west side.

: : A LL friend of mine said agencies who place these ads will pay as much as $6000 per month for a high visibility location. That must be pretty attractive to most LLs, especially those who have moderately priced rent stabilied buildings.
