We urge you to moderate your responses and be more helpful. Your conclusion this is a "moocher" is unwarranted and has no place here. There are a variety of potential strategies to offer this tenant other than just give up. This forum is a place to look at such strategies, to brainstorm -- not to castigate posters. We get complaints that the forum is hostile. Even if in the end there are no options left, the hostility is unacceptable.

: Some people need an "in your face" response. Especially adults who mooch off their grandmothers their whole life and who would screw over their family for the sake of a cheap apartment.

: The law in NYC is the same for everyone - family or not. 30 day notice to end tenancy. I'd love to hear a judge's reaction should this try to explain why he is "entitled" to an apartment that his dad owns. Pathetic.
