: I'm sure others will answer your other questions. But I must say I think you made a very bad decision to go along with the downstairs tenant's scheme to check out the landlord's immigration status. Whatever his status, it's irrelevant to either of your tenancies. And I would think that this type of self serving "investigation" looks like an abuse of your position. Does the INS allow you to just investigate your landlord and to look up random people's immigration status? Sounds like a situation ripe for abuse.
