My gas bill covers cooking only, in Manhattan, and my monthly ConEd bill runs about $12 whether I use the stove or not. I'd suggest you call your gas provider and ask them to recheck your meter. You could be paying for the whole building at $176 per month.

: hi,
: I just have a question about gas bill costs in New York City. This apartment in Brooklyn is the first one I've had where I've had to pay gas by myself (to Keyspan). And the latest bill I've received is for $176.95. which spans from Sep 26 - Nov 16. In my building gas is used for the stove and for the water heater. I cook maybe once a week if that. And I take short daily showers. Does this amount seem right? It seems incredibly high to me for one person (I live alone). I'm concerned that i'm paying for someone else's gas in addition to my own. I'd appreciate some perspective on the price. Thanks in advance.
