Research the city you're moving to, check out the median income and what fields/industry the city is known for....check our their unemployment rates over the past five years. Check out their growing industries. Check out the rent rates. Check out their local papers. See what the going rate is for realtors there. Stick to your budget. ABOVE all else, stick to your budget.

And never ever ever move in with strangers. Roommates are hell.
