: Does anyone know if there is a way for a displaced rent regulated tenant whose lease was not renewed based on landlord claiming need of unit "for personal use and/or family member" to keep tabs on the landlord and make sure that they have not re-rented the apartment to an unrelated tenant. (Theoretically they are prohibited from doing so for three years.)

You could hire an investigator to keep tabs on the apartment and its occupants, or, you could do so yourself, if you have a lot of time and aren't too conspicous.
