If you paid by credit card, you have some protection.
But where do these people get their nerve? They accepted the package, signed for it then promptly lost it. They were certainly careless, maybe negligent. They have a duty to act responsibly and excercise care, which they didn't. In my humble opinion, their waiver is worthless. It's a ploy so if they lose something, (as they did) they can point to the waiver and say "see, you signed it, we're not responsible". They are responsible.
