What is normal wear and tear?

Posted by MAtt on November 11, 2001 at 01:33:39:

I am battling my landlord in court in December over my security deposit. One of the things my landlord is claiming, and countersuing me over, is the bathroom floor. The floor had small ceramic tiles that kept popping up all throughout my year as tenant. The only thing attaching them to the floor was the grout between the tiles. My landlord is claiming water damage.
The landlord knew about the problem in June, told us he would fix it, and never did. My wife and I put the tiles back down and they stayed down. Now, the landlord claims the floor was damaged, and wants to keep my deposit. Am I responsible for it? Or is the fact that whoever put the floor down to begin with did a lousy job get me off the hook? I have pictures of the floor, some of the damaged parts. I'd appreciate any advice.
