Yes, she should return the security deposit.

Getting her to do so is another matter. Your recourse is to 1) Send her a short, written letter requesting deposit and 2) Sue her in small claims court.

Going to small claims is not difficult. However to win you would have to prove to a judge that she owes you the deposit. The best way to do this would be to have evidence like your cancelled check and an agreement that you and her signed.

: The girl I roomed with (only she was on the lease) has not returned my one-month security deposit. There is no reason for it, except we did have a big fight about me not giving her exactly a 30-day notice before I moved out - but that was resolved and she told me she was sending the money. Now I don't know if she is going to send it. What are my rights here? I would appreciate any helpful responses. Thanks.
