The time to get the rent docked for the nonfunctional oven was when you were still paying rent, not now that you're moving out. Yes, you're probably entitled to some compensation for that, but there's not set forumla; it would need to be negotiated with the landlord, and a refund is pretty unlikely.

On the security deposit, if you didn't cause any damage the landlord has to pay to repair, then you're entitled to get it back. The work and $ you've put into the apartment are unfortunately irrelevant. If you didn't negotiate any compensation from the landlord for the work when it was done, then you're not owed any consideration now for the work.

: One more question:
: The apartment we are moving out of has not had a working oven for over 2 months. The landlord knows of this and says he can't replace the part because it costs too much. We've already paid our last month's rent. Now we have to move into our new apartment by Thanksgiving so we can cook! Shouldn't they have deducted something from our rent for the 2 months plus of inconvenience? Secondly, we've made about $800. worth of inproovments to the place since we moved in,(put in tile floors in kit/bath, replaced broken glass,washer/dryer hookups, screened in porch). Other than one window that was broken but not our fault, should the landlords give us our security back? Incidently, they ARE aware of all the improovments we've made and have liked them. We never asked them to pay for any of the materials. However, we don't have any reciepts.
