Landlord entering when not home

Posted by Ann on November 06, 2001 at 20:15:26:

We are going to be moving into a new apartment at the end of the month. Friends of ours also live there in the same building. They have recently told us that the landlords enter their apartment when they're not home at times to repair something or "check" something. They are unaware that they have entered until they arrive home to find a note or phone call. We don't want them entering our apartment when we're not there outside of rescuing our pets from a fire or flood. Is it legal for them to enter or do they have to give us notice that are doing so?
