Asking for a 24 hour notice is considered reasonable. Unless the issue is of fire or smoke or water coming out from your apt. door or window, landlord does not have all rights of access 24/7 365 days a year. Otherwise, we'd have a lot more harrassing going on...landlords only harrass those who they believe don't know the law.
: actually, if you live in new york the landlord is not required by law to provide 24 hours notice. the law here is more vague, saying the LL need only give 'reasonable' notice. he should have copies of the keys; if not, you will most likely make him angry. what is he trying to get in for? try discussing this with him first. my LL used to barge in all the time, but we've made it clear she should be a little more respectful. appriaching it at this level seems to have done the trick, tho she still has moments of relapse.
