Hate to be the bear of bad news...but dream on!!!!!!!!!! you and every other new yorker would kill for a rent control apartment but unfortunately they really do not exist.

rent control apts. are usually occuppied by 80-year old women or their children and their children's children. rent control was something thaty was created a long time ago and so the people who were lucky enough to get one of those apartments have never left or passed it on to their kin. when a rent control apartment becomes "available" it somehow mysteriously becomes non-rent controlled. these landlords wait for these tenants to die because they are losing tons of money. imagine getting only $300 bucks for a 4 bedroom apartment in this market???

if you want cheap housing, you should look into section 8 housing or live outside of manhattan. your next bet would be to find someone who has a rent-controlled apartment and marry that person.

good luck in anyway
