Sure the LL can put a notice on your door, but it does not have official meaning until the matter has gone to housing court and a judge has approved the eviction. I'd write back and say that I do not accept the notice, and that since the rent was paid in full the legal fee was not necessary and will not be paid. You could offer to pay a modest late fee such as $50. You will get called to court, but will have your say.

I can't believe all the aggresive landlords that we read about on this board. The court likely has dealt with these landlords before and knows them well as they must be in court often. Once some uncalled for behaviour is apparent, it hurts the LL's claim and can even backfire on them.
