Legal Advice

Posted by Emanuelll on October 18, 2001 at 22:06:48:

Back in May my apartment was broken into, and things stolen in the about of 2,400 dollars. I moved out in July, and have been current on my rent. However, I just went to court On Wednesday, and found out that she has a counterclaim aganst me for 3,000 dollars for nonpayment of rent.

However, i was never served with any court papers and I was on a month to month lease. So if I was that far behind in my rent ($400.00) per month, she would have taken me to Landlord tenatn court or given me one months notice right??

I have a couple of questions:

Can she just make a claim like that with nothing to back it up.

What do i do if i cant find all of my receipts???

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

thanks
