I sublet and the guy I am subletting from is being terminated because he was not supposed to, it's rent controlled (I didn't know it was illegal). I cannot afford the new rent the landlord will be raising it to. I don't want get in the middle of anything legal and I am looking for new apt., but I don't know if I can do it in 2 weeks, which is date on letter. The guy on the lease says I have more time, that it will take a while before a court date, or eviction, or whatever. But I guess he won't be paying the rent so how long do I have to get out really? How long does this stuff take?
