rent control eviction

Posted by christine on October 02, 2001 at 13:56:11:

i have been renting a room in an apartment for two years. i recently found out that the apartment is rent-controlled, ie., the landlord pays $430 and charges me and two other tenants approximately $500 each. we have collectively reported her to the building owner who is planning to evict everyone. in the meantime the landlord is trying to evict me and my two roommates. i'm wondering about my rights, specifically, is it true that i am entitled to the back rent she owes me? if so, does anyone know a good lawyer who would be willing and able to represent me in this?
