Don't be so dang pigheaded, Tenant.net!
Archived messages are as good as deleted, because they are no longer visible unless you hunt through the archives. And you can't respond to the deleted messages!
All I'm saying is, don't archive messages that are just a few days old.
Your policy means that people who post the last few days before the end of the month are wasting their time!
Why not just wait a week or two before archiving the previous month's messages! Not archiving messages from Aug. 31 on Sept. 1! That's nuts, tenant.net!
Be reasonable, for heaven's sake.
No messages were deleted, just moved to the archives. People can pick up the threads by reference. We've been doing it this way since
message board has been up, and the archiving process has to happen sometime -- middle of the month would make it more confusing, and take several hours more to accomplish. It's a royal pain in the butt -- we tried it once. FYI, archiving is not automatic with this software, it's done by hand. But if anyone is interested, we can go to something like Ultimate Bulletin Board or Discus -- where archiving isn't an issue, users get dedicated user names and many other features. We've been thinking about that.
: : By archiving all August messages on Sept. 1, you deleted messages posted only days and hours before and interrupted active message threads.
: : Why not wait until the middle of the next month to archive messages from the previous month? Two weeks is plenty of time to give people a chance to read and respond to message threads. Or archive messages from mid-month at the beginning of the next month.
