Just one thing I would add to the numerous posts so far: Don't just get an estimate for $125. That may not stand up in court, if and when they sue. Get the work done yourself! Repair ALL the damage yourself. Then take photographs before and after, etc. Be sure you have receipts.

I'm assuming there's nothing in the lease that requires you to replace the rug whether it is damaged or not.
