Yes, it's called Rent Rollbacks and the tel # is 212-254-0270. We know the person who runs the company and she is legit, not a scam. (She has occasionally advertised on TenantNet - so we have had a financial relationship with her). From time to time we have seen other companies that are not completely legit, but she is. We won't comment on her rates -- that is for her to quote to prospective clients. She is not an attorney, but an experienced tenant activist and has been doing this at least ten years (if not more). She cannot promise to win a case before DHCR, but no lawyer can either. Can you do the same job yourself? Yes, but she has the benefit of many years' experience, especially in complicated cases and she stays on top of the need to respond by various deadlines. Many tenants forget these things or just aren't willing to do the needed work. Will DHCR counselors give you adequate counseling? Beyond the basics, probably not -- it's not their jobs and DHCR (as you know) is a pro-landlord agency. There are some good people at DHCR, but many have been rooted out and those that are left have limitations. Rent Rollbacks cannot represent a tenant in court (because she's not a lawyer), but if the case gets appealed in court, she can suggest tenant attorneys. She can (and does) represent tenants in front of DHCR. We have relied on her expertise from time to time. It's worth a phone call, or email to rollbacks@email.msn.com. And as with any attorney, ask all the right questions and get the info in writing before making any decision.

: Someone mentioned there is a company who will work with you to file an overcharge called Rent Rollbacks or something? Apparently they don't charge you anything unless you win, then they take 30%.
