Did you clean or replace the air filter?

is the AC sealed from the outside air coming in?

is there a vent swith and its open? it should be closed.

Are you on the top floor? Do you leave the ac on all day? You should....most AC's cannot cool down a heated apartment if its off all day.

Also .how many BTU's is it? also you should figure $100 a month JUST for a 10,000 BTU ac running most of the day...(1200 watts x 15 hours= 18KW per day x 17 cents per KW= $3.06 a day x 30 day= $92 plus tax fuel adj..etc...so $100........and more during a heat wave

The $189 is for how many days? maybe it was more then 30 so next month will be a cheaper.

: Brooklyn, NY - I moved into my apt on July 1, signed lease, including a/c. I got my electric bill for that month, $189!!! It's a small one bedroom on the fifth floor of a 5 unit dwelling. The a/c works horribly, especially during the awful heatwave, and obviously is inefficient. I want the landlord to replace the unit. Do I have a right to ask for this?
