My lease is up for renewal soon. I am paying a preferential rent and there is a somewhat higher "legal registered" rent. Here is my question.

If when I renew my legal rent is over $2,000, but my preferential rent is under $2,000, am I subject to that horrible "luxury" decontrol? My income is nowhere near high enough, but I read about tenants making errors and getting decontrolled by mistake.
