need to know real value of apartment

Posted by Kesime Bernard on July 30, 2001 at 21:12:59:

Hi, this is my first post. I moved into a Bed-Stuy, one-bedroom, rent-stabilized apartment a couple months ago and while it's quite nice, I don't think it's worth the $877, I'm paying for it. The lease I signed said that the previous tenant paid $750 for it and after the 18% vacancy increase, that brought the rent to its current price. But they could have told me the previous tenant paid anything they wanted to. Is there an offical record of the registered rent on a given apartment where I could verify that I'm indeed paying what I should be paying? Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
