that sounds like my last apartment. it was advertised as a 2br but it was really more of a 1br with a dining room that we used as a 2nd bedroom. the 'real' bedroom would have made a really nice closet, but as a bedroom it was more like a roomy coffin. ah, new york!

but truly, if ya signed the lease, that's it. i had to build a sort of garment rack that hung just over the bed, as there was not a closet in the place. i guess in the old days everybody had armoires.
