Annual Apartment "Inspection"--Is it legal?

Posted by Chloe Diane on July 26, 2001 at 11:59:27:

I live in a rent stabilized apartment in Harlem. Last night our building received notice (flyers under each door) the management company would be conducting its "annual apartment & building inspection" next Monday and we should be available to have our apartments "inspected" between 6:30-8:30 p.m. I have never run into this before. Is this legal? It seems intrusive and nosy. No clue what they are looking for. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks for your help.
