if you had a lease, things would be easier: you could jsut call the exterminator and take his charge out of your rent. you still have options, but as a month-to=month tenant, they are limited. get int touch with somebody in authority (how exactly is yr LL living in Canada?) and ask if you can call an exterminator yourself. a termite infestation is not the kind of thing a property owner would be wise to ignore, expense or not. i don't think the maintenance guy actually talked to anyone about this, his answer is so ridiculous (i assume he doesn't live in the building). worse comes to worse, you could pay for the exterminator and just eat the cost, but i really can'timagine the owner wouldn't want this fixed right away. can you contact him? write him a letter?
