I would balk at that too. Does it really cost that much to get a credit check? I ask because I've got them for as little as 20.00
I am looking for an apartment now, and I sometimes feel like people who may or may not decide to let me rent are trying to make money off of me by charging unnecessarily high fees. That may not be you, but many landlords do that.

: Is it a common practice for a landlord to require a credit check for a subletter? I am trying to sublet my apartment in Brooklyn, NY. The apartment is in a brownstone (so I assume that means it's private...) and the landlord occupies the building as well.
: Just wondering because I had a prospective subletter balk at the idea of having to pay $45 for a credit check for a 2 month sublet.
: Thanks,
