I found out how much the regulated rent was just a few weeks ago, and how much my landlord is paying ...it is $800 less than I am - its in writing and I have a copy. I don't know what action to take really as I just want my deposit back but it seems he's going to hold on to it, which means I'm going to have to do something. I broke the lease and have abandoned the apartment last month. I contacted the broker that got me the place and hoped that they would find someone asap - however, the landlord says he has someone who's interested in the place but isn't ready to move in .i.e. my deposit has now become the rent owing for the time the apartment is empty. Is there anything I can do? I was forced to pay rent before I could move it just so that it was held for me and not leased to anyone else. Its a prime location.
