Another sublet question

Posted by Gwen on July 14, 2001 at 01:04:06:

Here's another one. My landlord is a little nervous about me subletting my apartment because she's heard of people having trouble getting a subletter out. I assumed that if you have the subletter sign an agreement clearly stating the ending date of the sublease, you're covered legally. But now she's got me worried. (By the way, she is NOT trying to persuade me not to sublet. I think she's just looking out for both our best interests. I'm trying to ease her mind by finding out the facts.) So is there any way that a subletter could legally continue to occupy the apartment after an agreed upon end-date? And if they did, what re-course would I have?

Just out of curiosity, have any of you reading this ever encountered this kind of scenario?

Thanks,
Gwen
