Is it a common practice for a landlord to require a credit check for a subletter? I am trying to sublet my apartment in Brooklyn, NY. The apartment is in a brownstone (so I assume that means it's private...) and the landlord occupies the building as well.

Just wondering because I had a prospective subletter balk at the idea of having to pay $45 for a credit check for a 2 month sublet.
