You need to broaden your search. Seek out lower priced apartments in Queens, the Bronx, etc. You can find places that do not require a guarantor and which you can pay the rent yourself; no need for a roommate.

: : It's just that there are 20 people for every apartment-if you have the $$ see if LL will take your mothers out of state guarantor AND a few months rent paid up front in addition to the security deposit.
