[Since the Westchester hearings are in July, I am reposting this message which was originally posted in June and is now archived. Thanks for giving me this opportunity. JL Green]

Here in Westchester County, we have 40,000 rent regulated apartments. 30,000 are in all rental buildings and 10,000 in co-op conversions. Rents for new tenants are skyrocketing as landlords find ways to double rents when apartments turn over. Tenants who stay in their apartments are up against MCI increases and the ever-worrisome rent guidelines. It is critical, as always, that tenants appear at Guideline Board Hearings and speak about the costs and facts of rental life. Following is this year's schedule of Hearings:

Date/Time: Monday, July 9th, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm
Place: Mt. Vernon City Hall, City Council Chamber Rm, 1 Roosevelt Sq.

Date/Time: Wednesday, July 11th, 7 pm to 9 pm
Place: Yonkers, Grinton Will Library, 1500 Central Ave. (near Tuckahoe Rd.)

Date/Time: Monday, July 16th, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm
Place: White Plains, County Court House, 2nd Fl., 111 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd.

And there will be a Public Meeting on Wednesday, July 18th at 7 pm at the White Plains County Court House for the Board to discuss and deliberate on this year's guidelines and possibly pass them. If they don't reach agreement on Wednesday, they will meet the next night, Thursday, July 19th (same time and place) to complete their deliberations.

Please come to one or more of the Hearings and the Meeting on the 18th. And please speak. To put your name on the list of speakers, call 914-948-4434 by 3 pm on the day of the Hearing at which you want to speak.
