: Can anybody reccommend a good no fee rental website. They all seem to charge, so I am looking for references so I don't have to subscribe to more than one.

: Basically, I am hoping to escape the use of a broker. With that in mind and assuming no good no fee sites, is my best bet just to hit the pavement and go building to building?

: Thanks for your help.

start with the newspaper ads online:

villagevoice.com
nytimes.com (mostly Manhattan)
nydailynews.com mostly Bronx, upper Manhattan, Queens
nypost.com ditto

find the weeklies
Amsterdam News (Harlem, upper Manhattan)
lots of neighborhood newspapers: like: Carroll Gardens something or other, Brooklyn yadayada, West Side Spirit

big online all-ad paper: LootUSA, also at your corner newstand...

don't forget the college rags: columbiaspectator.com, NYU whatever...

use your internet search!
hit the "what's related" button in Netscape whenever you land on a rag.
