If you live in Manhattan, there's a local branch in Chelsea as well as the Lower East Side. Please check your yellow pages or call 411 and ask for the Tenant's Association or Tenant Advocacy Group in your area. They are indeed everywhere in Manhattan -- you just have to be pro-active and do a little research. How about the Legal Aid Society as well? These advocacy groups can help you get legal help or refer you to someone who can help without charging you a bundle.
