you say" it won't be hard to find a roommate to take my place,""" the person taking your place will not be a "roommate" because you will not be living with him or her. getting your name off of the lease should be easy, if your "roommate" is named in the lease he or she is not a roommate either but a co-tenant..the co-tenant should try and get your name off of the lease and he or she should be the only tenant named in the lease,, better for him or her,,,,,,he or she can then get someone to live with him or her and pay rent -- that is a roommate........make sure your name is taken off the lease so your rent liability is cancelled ...you must sign a surrender of rights statement , or the landlord gives a new lease
