I believe I made a mistake: Since you just received this new lease June 21, and LL must give you 30 days notice for a rent increase, then August 1st is when the new lease and the $350 increase takes effect. Any conversations regarding the increase you had with the super are not binding; those conversations legally mean nothing as far as rent increases and a new lease. What counts is what you get in writing and you only got this in writing June 21. As far as your being away for a month: Is your LL sneaky, or just ignorant? You should have a trusted friend monitor your apartment and mail for any legal papers while you're away.
