Sorry sweetie, but you only rent the inside, all exterior walls are completly under the rights of the LL. They have every right to tell you to remove. First off they may not trust your anchoring of the boxes and can only see a law suit if the boxes fall. If the boxes are near fire escapes they are illegal.

Building Dept gives out violations for stuff in hallways even when it is obvious you can get around them. It's black letter crap. LL is within thier rights and probably has too many other issues to deal with yours personally.
