: We recently moved out of the bottom floor of a Long Island, NY house.

: The tenants above us were very noisy and disrupted our sleep 3-4 nights a week.

: We informed the LL that we not going to renew the lease and would take possession of a new property on the 1st June. This was 5 weeks before the lease ended on the 30th June

: The LL inspected the property and found no faults in its upkeep

: The LL requested that we also remove all our goods and vacate by June 1st

: The property was left clean and in good order by the date specified

: A new tenant moved in on June 1st so continuous rent is being collected on the property

: Now the LL will not return our calls.

: How can we check to see if a single property can be legally rented to 2 separate apartments?

that would be illegal and what landlord would do anything illegal ;)

: Do you suggest:
: - Can we expect to have the security deposit returned?

: - Should we contact Attorney General and/or write letters

write letters then sue the b$$$$$$$$ in small claims court. see housing court section here on tenant.net for how to.

: Any help will be appreciated.

anytime.
